Outdoor Summer Home Maintenance

The warm summer months are upon us and it’s time to get your home summer ready! Here’s a list of outdoor projects you can get a jump start on before it gets too hot.

Power Washing

Power wash your driveway & sidewalks. You can rent a power washer or hire a power washing company. Power washing can make things look new again!

Clean Gutters, Downspouts, and Clear off the Roof

Summer can bring with it storms with heavy downpours. Don’t be caught unprepared! Cleaning out your gutters and downspouts helps keep water diverted away from your home. Clogged gutters and downspouts can cause water to get into places you don’t want it, like your basement.

It’s also a good idea to have any build up of leaves or other debris removed from your roof.

Soft washing is recommended for items such as screens, outdoor wood furniture, cedar, wood or vinyl siding.

Wash Windows and Replace Window Screens

Wash your windows inside and out, especially before opening them to let in a breeze. All of the built up dirt will end up inside your house and nobody wants that.

Wash window screens by removing them and rinsing with soapy water. Replace any screens that have tears or holes.

Don’t Let Bugs Take Over

Have the perimeter of your home sprayed as well as around doors and windows to prevent unwanted house guests like spiders and ants. You can also consider having your yard treated for relief from pesky mosquitos. Caulking around windows and doors is a good way to keep bugs out as well.

Prep Your Grill for BBQ Season

Clean and test your grill to make sure it’s ready for hamburger and hot dog season. If you have a gas grill, heat it up for about 20-30 minutes and then scrub the grates clean with a grill brush. For a charcoal grill, grab a bucket of hot, soapy water and clean with a sponge.
